Self-care Steam

1. Set Your Space- Before you begin your yoni steam, create a sacred space or altar for yourself. You may light candles, turn on music that feels related to your intention, and burn incense or herbs to clear the space for your healing. You may also choose to simply read a book, meditate or enjoy sacred silence — whatever feels most nourishing to you  during this honouring of your womb. It is suggested to take a few moments to connect to the plants – smell them, touch them, and reflect on their medicinal and spiritual attributes. 

2. Create Your Seat- You can turn your bathroom into a temple and your toilet into a steaming stool. For your yoni steaming seat, you can have your Momma’s Alchemy Steaming Seat,  or use either a big bowl or a 5 gallon bucket. If you use a bowl or bucket, create a comfortable seat for yourself with a towel rolled up as a cushion. Make sure to thoroughly cleanse the toilet before placing the bowl with your steam into it.

3. Prepare Your Herbs- Bring 5-6 cups of filtered water to a boil, and add 3 scoops of your herbal yoni steam blend. Then, reduce the heat and let the herbs simmer for 5-10 minutes. You may feel called to speak your intentions into your pot as you stir your boiling herbs, to activate the healing even more. When this process of steeping is finished, turn off the heat and let the water and herbs sit and cool for 5 minutes. You can keep a jug of cold water to pour in if the heat feels too much when I sit down.

4. Get Comfortable & Situated- Get undressed from the waist down (or completely if you desire), and slowly sit on the yoni steaming stool to ensure it is a safe temperature. Be cautious not to touch the pot with your body. The steam should feel comfortably warm, and not overly hot. If the temperature is uncomfortable, wait several minutes and try again. 

5. Relax & Enjoy- Sit on your yoni steaming stool for between 15-30 minutes. Allow yourself to feel what arises, as emotions may come up to be released, and you may experience a feeling of liberation and empowerment. After your yoni steam session, you may choose to thank yourself for this sacred experience. You may also thank the herbs, the water, or any other element that has helped create a healing space for you. When finished, you can store them in the refrigerator for use within 7 days, offer the herbs to the compost, or gift them directly  back to the Earth by pouring into the soil outside.

For full benefits of yoni steaming, it is recommended that you steam at least 1-2 times per month, but no more than once a week.

1. Exercise increases blood flow through the whole body which increases circulation, stimulates lymphatic drainage and clears stagnation. It is truly the fastest way to achieve overall physical and mental wellbeing. Anything that gets your heart rate up will pump more blood to your womb as well, such as walking, dancing, hiking, swimming, yoga, jogging, and resistance training. Long walks are a helpful and easy way to clear stagnation. Find an activity that you enjoy and you’re more likely to do regularly. Any form of movement, no matter how insignificant it may seem, is better than no movement at all.

2. Hydration If we aren’t hydrated properly, our blood will lack the water it needs to function optimally. Drink half your body weight (in pounds) in ounces of water daily. Keep in mind that alcohol and caffeine are diuretics, which flush fluids out of your body. So, for every drink or cup, consume an additional glass of water to replenish what you’ve lost.

3. Drink Supportive Herbal infusions or blends throughout the month Herbs such as red raspberry leaf, nettle leaf, oat straw (and milky oat tops), plus rose all support the female system (helpful throughout the month) + burdock, dandelion support liver cleansing (especially helpful 1 week before your menstrual cycle). 4. Deep Breathing When our stress levels are low, the body can focus on its other functions, which are sometimes put on the backburner as our bodies deal with the acute stressors of everyday life in a fast-paced society. Take 5-10 minutes a day to honor yourself and focus on deep breathing.

5. Womb Massaging the uterine area is especially helpful for those with hormonal imbalances or those trying to conceive. It can help to regulate the menstrual cycle, support reproductive health, and increase fertility. Create a massage oil with your favorite essential oil + an almond and apricot oil base. Massage the womb area for around 15 minutes on days when you are not ovulating or menstruating. Send yourself loving and healing thoughts during this nurturing practice.
